Camp Horizon is prepariing to celebrate fifty years of Camp Horizon (Leesburg FL). The fact is that Camp Horizon has existed for over sixty years.
There was a group in the sixties, primarily from Emmaus Bible School, that came to Florida to encourage active assemblies, plant new assemblies, and do evangelistic work. These were called the Florida Gospel Pioneers.
They operated children’s clubs, Vacation Bible Schools, and eventually began a summer camp ministry. They used a play on their name, Camp Fla-Go-Pi. The name sounded like a Native American word, so their logo included an indian head (and or arrowhead). The image above was used in the 1970s and may be based upon the Camp Fla-Go-Pi logo.
When this camp became Camp Horizon is not clear, but certainly by 1965 when camp was being hosted at the Orange Springs site.
